To celebrate Dawson’s Graphic Design program, students are tasked with crafting a poster to serve as the visual cornerstone of the program's end-of-year vernissage. This event showcases the culmination of students' works and marks a significant milestone in our academic journey.
As an embodiment of the vibrant energy inherent in the vernissage, the poster has to radiate excitement and capture the enthusiasm shared by everyone. It needs to be clear that the design communicates the essence of a Graphic Design event. Titled "Good Stuff," the poster not only alludes to the difference at the vernissage but also sets a lighthearted and jovial tone perfect for the occasion. On that note, the inclusion of a smiley face sticker further amplifies the festive atmosphere of the event.
The design process unfolded organically. The incorporation of a simple yet impactful typeface at the bottom of the poster grounded the design amidst the playful arrangement of scattered stickers. A strategically placed sticker, replacing the letter "O," creates a focal point, adding a dynamic quality to the design by simulating the appearance of peeling from the surface. Information is thoughtfully organized within a grid, harmonizing the composition and ensuring clarity amidst the funky placed illustrations.
I loved making this poster, but I think it’s because I got lucky. Like I said before everything sort of happened all at once. The design was not really planned or thought about. I just designed the smiley face and came up with the words and there it was! I am super proud of this poster.
