Trinkets & Treasures is an informative booklet outlining the details of Dawson’s Graphic Design Program. Inside there is all the information one would need if they had any questions about the program. The goal was to design it in a way that not only conveyed vital information but also engaged and captivated the reader, adding personality into what might otherwise be considered mundane content.
The design happened when looking around my class. Many students had decorated their desks to bring more life to the boring school classroom. Drawing inspiration from this, the booklet Trinkets & Treasures encapsulates the journey all student’s had. The content being quite clinical and lacking a bit of dynamism, it was imperative that the design helps the reader stay invested in the booklet. This approach gave the booklet a sense of authenticity and intimacy, transforming it into a reflection of the three-year journey shared by the students. Through this integration of personal artifacts and storytelling, "Trinkets & Treasures" transcends its role as a mere informational resource, and really becomes a cherished keepsake to remember the collective journey of the students.
By incorporating objects and personal anecdotes, the design achieved a more organic and personalized aesthetic, resonating deeply with the intended audience. The design process began with finding various objects on desks, including cherished items, and mementos significant to the class. The nice electric blue really catches the attention of readers as well as the very blunt and direct subtitle.
This project is very dear to me because it really represents us as a group. I tried my best to make it as personal as possible but by still following the content. It was very fun to make and to have to reminisce on all of our years to try and find jokes to include inside. I feel like for someone who doesn’t know the program, it really shows how close all of the students became and it is a little glimpse of our crazy three-years at Dawson.
